Alice Underwood is a voracious reader of science fiction, a fan of the bossa nova, and an avid scuba diver; her Squilla Design Studio takes its name from an ocean creature.
Alice grew up in central Texas, and studied music and ancient history while earning degrees in mathematics from The University of Texas and Princeton University. After many years in the corporate world, including a sojourn in Zurich, she now splits her time between New York City and Austin.
As a ceramic and digital artist, Alice is drawn to clean lines and organic geometries that allow color to play a leading role. Strongly influenced by midcentury modern design, she aims to create work that’s pleasing to the senses by incorporating a bit of syncopation in its symmetry.
The online portfolio showcases some of Alice's best work, both functional pottery and seamless surface pattern design suitable for fabric and wallpaper. Her pottery is sold on Etsy. Products featuring her designs are available for purchase on Spoonflower, Threadless, and Redbubble and she is currently open to licensing and commissions.
